UNIQUE EVENTS OFFERED AT THE PARKS
Families will have plenty of fun choices for free events this weekend, October 7th and 8th. And the selection of activities presented by the Parks and Recreation Department ranges from old-fashioned farming to state-of-the-art ice!
Friday and Saturday, families are welcome to Salomon Farm’s Harvest Fest for a celebration of the history and culture of the American Farm. This is the third year to offer unique exhibits and hands-on activities.
Dates, times and location are: October 7, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and October 8 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Salomon Farm Park, 817 W. Dupont Rd. If you have any questions just ask for Tony. Bring the whole family and spend a day on the farm, enjoy a hayride, antique tractor display and more.
And for a total change of pace, families are welcome to a free Centennial event – a Celebration on Ice at McMillen Ice Arena Saturday, October 8th from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Families have always enjoyed ice skating in Fort Wayne, and a pictorial has been put together at the Ice Arena for a historic look at the state’s first artificial ice rink.
Plan on viewing a fabulous exhibition of skating – both hockey and figure skating from 6:30 – 7 p.m. The rest of the evening includes free skating and skate rental, refreshments and a chance to see ice skating notables.
Location: McMillen Ice Arena, 3901 Abbott Street. Easiest entrances to the park are either off Hessen Cassel or Rudisill Blvd.
