TINCAPS WIN! BEST IN THE COUNTRY

The Fort Wayne TinCaps, fresh off winning a first-half division title, are in the midst of one of the best seasons in team history. They are also one of the hottest teams in all of Minor League Baseball. The TinCaps, 49-25 on the year, are tied for the third-most wins in the minor leagues.

“It is a privilege to watch this team every night,” TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. “They have already put us into the playoffs for the first time since 2006 and it seems like they’ve fed off the big crowds at Parkview Field. It’s an incredible atmosphere in downtown Fort Wayne.”

Only the Birmingham Barons (Double-A Chicago White Sox) and Akron Aeros (Double-A Cleveland Indians) have more wins than the TinCaps. Birmingham is 49-24 in the Southern League while Akron is 48-23 in the Eastern League. Like the TinCaps, both squads are stocked with potential major-leaguers.

“To be in the same conversation as those two clubs is a great compliment to our players,” Nutter said. “Birmingham has already sent Gordon Beckham to the big leagues with the White Sox and we expect several of our players to do the same with the Padres before long.”

The TinCaps opened their second-half slate with an 8-4 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks, Thursday, June 25 at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne never trailed as Blake Tekotte and Drew Cumberland, two of the San Diego Padres’ top prospects, launched home runs.

The TinCaps continued their weekend series, Friday at 7:05pm against the South Bend Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks). INF Justin Parker, a Bluffton native, was activated off the Disabled List by the Silver Hawks and was in action during the series.

On Saturday, June 27, in the 5th, Robertson drove in Blake Tekotte with a single. Later in the inning, Figueroa came to the plate with two out and the bases loaded and promptly unloaded them with a double to the alley in left-center to make it 6-0.

Davis took it from there, holding the Silver Hawks scoreless through five innings. In the 6th, he gave up an RBI double to Bluffton, Ind., native Justin Parker which cut the lead to 6-1.

In the 7th, Robertson hammered a solo home run to make it 7-1. A wild pitch in the top of the 8th plated Parker as the final run of the game.

The Fort Wayne TinCaps announced that they have changed their July 4th game time from 4:05pm to 7:05pm in order to accommodate the addition of a post-game fireworks show to the promotional schedule.
