BASEBALL LEGEND LEFTY ALVAREZ HONORED AT HISTORY CENTER
Waynedale resident Isabel (Lefty) Alvarez was recently featured (October 1-15) at the History Center, 302 E. Berry Street. The History Center was participating in Hispanic Heritage Month and Lefty’s uniforms and memorabilia were on display from her days as a baseball player for the Fort Wayne Daisy’s, which were made famous in the movie, League of Their Own.
Alverez’s Cabañas uniform will be returned to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown at the conclusion of the event.
Isabel, who is the Vice President of the Sandpoint Gardens Neighborhood Association, enjoys reminiscing about her days growing up in Cuba and playing for the Cabañas baseball team in Havana as well as playing for the nationally famous Fort Wayne Daisy’s.
Isabel will be making a special appearance at the History Center on Sunday, October 15, at 2:00pm to talk about her life in and out of baseball.
