USPS WILL BE EVERYWHERE THIS HOLIDAY
Don’t be surprised if you see postal vehicles in your neighborhood on Sundays during the holiday season. To ensure we get holiday packages to their destinations in time for the holidays, the Postal Service will be delivering packages seven days a week through Christmas Day to major cities and high-volume areas in the Greater Indiana District. As an added convenience, Post Offices will also be open in select communities (listed below) on Sundays including Deccember 21 from noon to 4 p.m.
In addition, the Postal Service rented extra vehicles to handle the increased volumes of packages over the holidays, and they will also be out on Sundays.
“Everyone relies on us to get their packages home for the holidays and we take great pride in taking on that responsibility,” said Greater Indiana District Manager Larry Diegel. “We’re prepared to do whatever it takes to deliver for our customers.”
Diegel also wants to inform customers that if they hear someone opening their mailbox early in the morning that it may be their local carrier delivering holiday cheer. “Our carriers will be on the streets as early as 6 a.m. and up to 8 p.m. You may even have a carrier deliver packages more than once a day,” he said. “We in the Postal Service claim the holiday season as our time to shine, and it is our intention that every package makes its way to its destination in time for the holidays,” Diegel said.
The Fort Wayne Main Office and Centennial Post Office locations will be open.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
