CATS, QUILTS & GARAGE SALE MANIA – AROUND THE FRAME

June is “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month” and the Allen County SPCA needs help finding homes for all of the adorable felines in need of pet parents. Springtime is when more kittens are born and the need is greatest. ACSPCA staff has decorated the Born Again Quilts Studio storefront windows to draw awareness to this special month. Of course the displays would not be complete without cat quilts and feline fabric to round it out.

Now one of the huge posters is a puppy. “Woofers” will have their month to shine in October when “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month” is celebrated. Whether you are a cat or dog lover, this is a great time to support the ACSPCA by adopting an animal or contributing to their upkeep while they wait for their forever home. If you can’t get out to visit them a digital photo frame spotlighting them is also set up in the display window.

Born Again Quilts sponsors the “One Step Ahead of the Dog” project. People who wish to relinquish quilts because they are past their prime and in need of restoration drop them off at the BAQ. Once the quilts are restored they are sold and the proceeds benefit the ACSPCA. The featured eight-pointed star quilt in the photo had a major stain removed from the back (quite a story how that happened!) and the original tattered binding removed and replaced.

On June 6-7 Southwood Park, Fairmont, Elmhurst/Hodell Acres and Belle Vista/Allendale neighborhoods are all having their annual garage sales. Association wide garage sales are kind of like trick-or-treating for adults. You get to go door-to-door to find “treats” and pay fabulous prices for them. Recycling unneeded items to someone who can use them, making a little money and keeping them out of the landfill is a good thing. On Saturday, June 7 Born Again Quilts will be participating. Along with the “One Step Ahead of the Dog” quilts other recycled art will be for sale to benefit the ACSPCA. Artist Lorri Courtney will sell her cat themed pins and magnets made of bottle caps and donate 50% of the proceeds.
