FORT WAYNE SPORT CLUB TO HOST MONTHLY FISH FRIES
Traditional German Activity Returns as Summer Ends.
A Fish Fry will be held in Fort Wayne on Friday, September 22nd, starting at 4:30 p.m. Fort Wayne Sport Club, located at 3102 Ardmore Ave in Fort Wayne, will host the event.
Come join in on the fun and enjoy the opening fall fish dinner of 2017. This 1st Fish Fry of the season will once again continue the German dining tradition at Fort Wayne Sport Club. The cost is $9.00 for adults and $4.00 for children ages 6 to 10. Children age 6-and-under eat for free.
The delectable dinner includes a generous portion of fish, baked or scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, applesauce, roll and butter as well as dessert, all made fresh by members of the Sport Club. Great draft beers are also available at the Fort Wayne Sport Club bar including Köstritzer, HofBrau, Guinness, Smithwicks, Stella Artois, Mad Anthony, Budweiser and Bud Light. Many fine bottled beers are also available at the full-service bar.
Fish Fries are then traditionally held at Fort Wayne Sport Club on the 4th Friday of each month throughout the season, although the Holidays can vary the scheduling a bit. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the next Fish Fry on Friday, October 27th. Fish Fries will then continue in November, January, February, March with the final Fish Fry of the season on Good Friday, March 30th, 2018.
2017 marks the 90th anniversary of the Fort Wayne Sport Club, which was founded in 1927 by an active group of soccer players who immigrated to the Fort Wayne area from Germany in the aftermath of World War I. Their immediate goal was ‘the promotion of football (soccer) and German culture’ in the Northeast Indiana area. Today, the Fort Wayne Sport Club is a hub of soccer activity, with programs for recreational and competitive soccer players from age 4-years to 30-and-over. “We are extremely proud of our long history and heritage of encouraging participation in soccer at all levels throughout the area,” stated Dan Kruse, President of Fort Wayne Sport Club. The Fort Wayne Sport Club is a member of Indiana Soccer, which is the state-wide representative of US Youth Soccer, US Adult Soccer and US Soccer. Since 1992, 61 people have been inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame. Seven of those 61 are Fort Wayne Sport Club members, the most from any club in the state.
