PUBLIC SAFETY IS TOP PRIORITY – Message From The Mayor
Public safety continues to be a top priority of my administration as we’re committed to being the safest city possible for residents, neighborhoods, and businesses.
As a way to continue that commitment, we’re increasing staffing levels for the Fort Wayne Police Department and Fort Wayne Fire Department.
Nine lateral police officers have begun academy training to become fully commissioned Fort Wayne police officers. Seven males and two females are part of this process. Eight of the officers come from departments within the State of Indiana. The other is from the Lima, Ohio Police Department. Their law enforcement experience ranges from two years to as many as 11 years.
It’s vital for us to come together united as individuals, families, and neighborhoods to communicate and be partners with law enforcement. We have full confidence in the Fort Wayne Police Department and the outstanding work they do each day to serve and protect our community.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department recently started its 89th recruit class with 11 firefighter paramedics.
While the Fort Wayne Fire Department works closely with the existing emergency responders and departments in Allen County, a need has been identified to have a new department of firefighter paramedics that will be fully integrated into the current work force and firehouses.
Earlier this year, the 88th recruit class finished with 17 recruits who are now firefighters for the City of Fort Wayne.
Increasing our staffing levels is good news for all of us. It sends a positive message that we care and are dedicated to making a meaningful difference.
Thanks for doing your part as we recognize public safety is critical to the current and future success of Fort Wayne.
