Nancy Mehl weaves an intricate plotline in Blessings in Disguise, a mystery novel, set in an Amish community. Cheryl Cooper has recently taken over the Swiss Miss gift shop after her Aunt Mitzi has left for the mission field. Soon, strange happenings begin to occur. Cheryl hears an angry voice in a corn maze and receives a threatening note. Cheryl and her friend Naomi begin a quest to discover what secret events are transpiring.

A charming work in Christian fiction with an air of mystery, Blessings in Disguise will appeal to any lover of Amish culture. Though at times the plot is predictable, the novel overall is uplifting, easy-to-read, and engaging. Simple, sweet, and suspenseful, Blessings in Disguise is a heartwarming and, at times, heart pounding addition to bookshelves everywhere. The target reader for this book will be women ages 20 and older.

The book contains Christian themes of truth, courage, and restoration throughout its course. Coming to the Amish community, Cheryl faces the aftermath of a recent heartbreak. Through Christ’s restoration her path is directed in new ways as the book progresses. As Cheryl protects a new friend and uncovers the truth behind the strange occurrences in their town, she exhibits bravery and faith in the God who is reliable.
