TEACH ON THE BEACH
Student run group “News Hour”- meets once a week at Bishop Luers to watch and discuss current events/global news-Luers News Hour and News Hour in Ghana.
Teach on the Beach International, is a nonprofit that focuses on providing education in places where it does not exist in Ghana, West Africa. This is done through sponsorship of ten local students in Ghana, bringing volunteers to Ghana to help in the local schools and with after school tutoring, and running a News Hour Program for young adults in the evenings.
News Hour is a student run program that focuses on watching and discussing global news and events. It is through Teach on the Beach that a group of high school students at Bishop Luers have started their own News Hour program. The students at Bishop Luers meet once a week, watch the news, have a discussion circle, and blog on Facebook with the Ghanaian students. Students also have the opportunity to Skype-video chat once a month to discuss these issues face-to-face.
This group of young adults will be traveling to Ghana on May 29th for three weeks to live and work among the Ghanaian people as Teach on the Beach volunteers.
On Tuesday, March 27, 2012 a fundraiser will be held to support this group traveling to Ghana from 6:00 – 9:00pm at Pint & Slice, 816 Calhoun St. in Fort Wayne, IN. Enjoy great food, drinks, music, and Ghanaian art will be up for auction. Cost will be $5 at the door for all you can eat pizza and pop; or $10 at the door for all you can eat pizza, pop, and beer.
