TASTE OF WAYNEDALE AGAIN A SUCCESS!

Taste of Waynedale Again a Success in 2012!It was a glorious beginning to the spring season and a beautiful day to get out and enjoy the 4th Annual Taste of Waynedale hosted by Kingston Residence of Fort Wayne.

Those who waited in anticipation for the event to officially begin (during the private preview party for residents and families of Kingston) were treated to the lively music and choreography of the newly formed Show Choir from Kekionga Middle School.

Once inside the door, attendees were treated to samples of over 75 different products including luscious bread pudding from Casa, pulled pork from Nine Mile, Elvis cupcakes from Waynedale Bakery, Chicken and Beef Satays from Captain Ron’s, fresh strawberry pie from Azar’s, brand new salad selections from Burger King, healthy sandwiches from Subway, German Chocolate cake from Hall’s, juicy chicken from Penguin Point, a tantalizing fruit display from Landmark, delicious crab rangoon from China Palace, traditional favorites from Pizza Hut, a variety of wines from Belmont beverage plus champagne and shrimp from Kingston Residence. Everyone appreciated the sunshine while eating out on the patio and enjoying the festivities.

Silent Auction items, in three locations of the Kingston Assisted Living Community, offered a wide array of baskets, service packages, fresh flowers, golf packages, restaurant certificates and much more. The 65 plus items added just over $3,000 to the proceeds of the event. Bidding was fierce on several items including a Keurig Coffeemaker from Dr. Bolinger that went for $105, a three tiered plate stand donated by Hair Affair sold for $90, a will package from attorney Jim Springer brought in $110, a gift certificate from Advanced Window Cleaning enticed a $90 purchase and Papa John’s pizza for a year bought in $70. Other unique items included a one of a kind huge stuffed pony from Wells Fargo, an aviary basket from Elzey Patterson Rodak, and a train basket compliments of Willow Creek Crossing.

The two charities chosen this year by Kingston Residence to receive the Taste of Waynedale proceeds are again Community Harvest Food Bank and new this year, Fort Wayne Trails – Waynedale Initiative. Marketing Director Camille Garrison states that “Community Harvest is always in need and our goal for the Fort Wayne Trails is to elevate the awareness for the need to be able to safely connect with the current Foster Park trail. Access points that allow people to travel by foot or bike to the existing trails without having to tackle narrow streets such as Fairfield or Tillman are needed. We hope by creating this new fund that other Waynedale businesses and the Waynedale Community Improvement Team will want to help support a healthier Waynedale.”

Kingston would like to thank all 23 vendors who supported our event: Azar’s Big Boy, Bandido’s, Belmont Beverage, Burger King, Captain Ron’s Corral, Casa Ristorante Italiano, China Palace, Ellison Bakery, Gimme’s Diner/Mike’s Donuts, GFS Marketplace, Hall’s Drive In, Kingston Residence, Nine Mile Restaurant, Nino’s Bar & Grill, Penguin Point, Pizza Hut, PopCotton Flavored Popcorn, Spyro’s, Subway, T8ste-Tizzzzz, The Landmark Centre, The Stand and Waynedale Bakery. Please express your appreciation to these vendors when you visit their restaurants and businesses.

Taste of Waynedale proceeds were $8700 and will be shared by Community Harvest and Fort Wayne Trails. Executive Director Erin Floyd said “we were blessed with a perfect day and we are proud to have surpassed our donations from last year.” Special thanks to all the area businesses who donated silent auction items, J.W. Signs for providing signage, Waynedale News for providing advertising, Hair Affair and Curves for being ticket sales outlets, Bandido’s, Dairy Queen, Pike’s and Penguin Point for allowing parking so our shuttle could transport the many patrons to the event.

Penguin Point’s marquee summarized it well – Taste of Waynedale, Turn Left to Eat Right!
