CALLING ALL MEN FOR TRADITIONAL SMOKER
Over 65 years ago, Edward (Moose) Krause began a tradition of promoting Notre Dame football in South Bend. So was born the first Notre Dame Smoker.
In the Fort Wayne area, with no exception, another fine Notre Dame Smoker is scheduled to happen this Sunday, February 26th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel.
This has been a tradition for many years at St. Joe-Hessen Cassel, where “men only” gather to hear legendary sports commentator Kent Hormann and players from Notre Dame talk about the team, the school and share life experiences. Ethan Johnson-defensive end, Matt Mulvey-quarterback and general of the “red army”, Pat Coughlin-tailback, Jonathan Frantz-outside linebacker and David Ruffer-kicker are expected to be in attendance.
They will be serving a plethora of great food such as, sausage, homemade baked beans, chicken wings, and broasted potatoes. Drinks along with some casino fun starts at 12:30pm and lasts until 5:30pm.
The success of the Notre Dame-Hessen Cassel Smoker is directly related to the hard work and dedication of people like Ed Merz, who works on the event year-round. Profits made from this fightin’ Irish tradition is used to help local charities throughout the Fort Wayne area.
St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Hessen Cassel, is located just south of the interchange of Interstate 469 and Indiana 27. The church is immediately on the left. Entrance to the church is near Bostick Road just beyond the Sparky Mart gas station on the left. The event is held in the activity center attached to the school.
This year’s Blue-Gold Smoker admission is $18 presale or $20 day of event. All proceeds to benefit the Knights of Columbus 12379 and St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Hessen Cassel. Remember this is a “stag only” event. Tickets are available at the door or you may call Tony at 260-639-6554.
