COUNCILMAN’S CORNER
I’m happy that Elmhurst High School has received a reprieve– at least for now – from the tentative plans to close down the school. This decision was due in large part to lots of activism by school supporters during the past few months. Congratulations to everyone who proved that “you CAN change city hall”! A couple of thoughts: first, everyone who fought for Elmhurst should continue to be alert regarding future developments, sometimes matters of this sort can turn around quickly. Secondly keep being an activist in behalf of Elmhurst–it will take lots of parental and community support if Elmhurst High School is to continue to grow as a strong educational institution.
I’ve seen a few potholes following the recent snow melt off although fewer than in the past. The best answer to potholes is to prevent them with well–engineered thorough fares including good storm water drainage from roads and streets. That’s the ongoing goal of Fort Wayne’s Board of Public Works and our city Engineering Department. When potholes do occur despite the best efforts to prevent them there’s something you can do to correct the problem. Call the pothole “hotline” at 427-1235 and the pothole will be filled within 24 hours-usually within 12 hours. The pothole hotline is one of many ways in which the government has become more efficient during recent years.
As a medical doc and city councilman I’d like to offer my kudos to 2 local clinics which provide lots of free medical care to those who have no health insurance. I volunteer at both the Matthew 25 Health and Dental Clinic and also the ASK Clinic on S. Calhoun Street. Both of these free clinics do a great job helping out needy folks in Allen County. If you are looking for a good cause to support as a volunteer or donor these two should be at the top of the list!
Give me a call with any thoughts or suggestions regarding how we can make Fort Wayne a better place to live.
