THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT
COE VISION TRAINING
While in Florida this March, I met Joe Yonto who was a Minor League umpire and still umpires college games and Frontier League games.
Yonto is now involved with the Fast Track Baseball Corporation, out of Shorewood Illinois. Joe is the Professional Vision Trainer for the Coe Vision Training for Major League Baseball.
This consists of a patented vision-training machine, which delivers tennis balls in a batting cage 80 to 150 MPH.
By players following (tracking) balls at this speed, the muscles in their eyes are strengthened, thus helping hitters to gain an advantage. I met him at Winter Haven on a Saturday and the next day he was at the Braves Training Camp.
All balls are strikes and there is no danger of being hit unless you stand on the plate. That day I stood at the plate in the batting cage and watched the tennis balls go by at tremendous speeds. I was given a vision training video that was narrated by Dave Otto, an ex-major league pitcher and now a Chicago Sports announcer. Quite an experience for me!
