COUNCILMAN’S CORNER

Before I mention anything else—-DON’T FORGET TO VOTE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2! This fall’s election is very important for several reasons. There are many strong candidates at the county, state, and national levels and their approaches to governing are very different. Officials elected in the November 2nd election will make important decisions about tax policy, foreign policy, law enforcement, education and many other important aspects of our lives. It makes sense to participate in deciding exactly who those decision makers will be by voting!

After much discussion an agreement has been reached regarding the CEDIT tax funds that are allotted to each City Council district for projects such as street and sidewalk repair, streetlights, and similar projects. Improving infrastructure in neighborhoods will remain a priority and the funding level for each district will remain the same. An extra effort will be directed toward applying CEDIT funds to projects that will directly assist businesses that have the opportunity to create new jobs. This approach is exactly what has been followed by yours truly in the 4th district for several years and makes sense to me. Let me know your thoughts.

The City Council Flood Committee of which I am a member will meet in the Omni Room on the 2nd floor of the City-County Building at 4pm on Tuesday, October 26th. The 5 Council members on this committee will have a general meeting followed by an open discussion with any 4th District citizen who has been affected by flooding who wishes to speak. City storm water staff will be present.

I’ve received questions from citizens in the Indian Village area regarding the railroad construction in that vicinity. Rail representatives state that they are adding some additional track to help handle rail traffic through that area. They state that they are not planning a new major rail facility at that site. I’ll keep an eye on that situation. Also, regarding recent questions about Engle Road: that roadway will be resurfaced from time to time but traffic planners are not planning a major widening project at this time.

Call or email me with any suggestions or questions. Thanks for your support!
