MAYOR GRAHAM RICHARD

Dear Waynedale Readers,

“The more things change, the more they remain the same” is as true today as it was years ago when philosophers first made the observation. While the City of Fort Wayne has announced some new faces in the Mayor’s Office, the commitment that my administration has to doing the basics well to make this a better city is the same. We must strive to be a Safe City, we must maintain the best service standards possible within our departments, and we must create job opportunities for our citizens and others who want to start or grow businesses in our community.

I am happy to highlight some people on my team that share my commitment to make the City of Fort Wayne a great place to raise a family or run a business. For the past few years, Gina Kostoff was the name and face most familiar with the issues and citizens in the Southwest Quadrant of Fort Wayne. As the Southwest Neighborhood Specialist, Gina worked tirelessly to make sure that the needs of the citizens were met in a professional and timely manner. I am proud to announce Gina was recently promoted to Utility Projects Manager for the City of Fort Wayne. In her new role, Gina will have the responsibility to oversee many of the infrastructure improvements that are planned for our community.

Replacing Gina would not be easy, because it was important to find someone who had an understanding of the concerns Southwest Fort Wayne, and had the energy to get the job done well. I am happy to announce Ken Nicolet, formerly of the Public Works Division and Street Department, has accepted the challenge. Ken has worked for the City of Fort Wayne since 2000, and at one time had been a township trustee. Neighborhood Association Presidents may remember Ken as a constant fixture at President Meetings, or handling CEDIT requests. Southwest citizens will continue to be in good hands.

Southwest Fort Wayne, as our entire community, is undergoing some growing pains. The City of Fort Wayne, Allen County, and other incorporated cities and towns, are working together on a Comprehensive Plan that will help us manage this growth while maintaining the atmosphere of our neighborhoods. Gina and Ken have the skills to handle their new responsibilities, but they cannot do it alone. They need input from you to let them know your concerns and ideas about our community. You can contact Ken at (260) 427-1122, or via email, ken.nicolet@ci.ft-wayne.in.us. Or you can view our web site, www.cityoffortwayne.org, for more information about improvements in our community.
