Dear Miss Butcher,

Although I enjoy reading the various reviews that you have written in The Waynedale News, I was very impressed with your latest review of the “Passion of Christ”. Of the many different ones I’ve read, I thought it was one of the best that I’ve read anywhere. Your writing shows a talent and maturity beyond your years.

Best of luck in your future education and I hope you find time to continue your writing. I look forward to reading more of your works as time goes by.

Sincerely,

Rex Altenburg.

Dear Ray McCune,

OK you West Virginia Hillbilly you wanted a response to your editorial.

I have no problem with seniors fishing for free but I have less of a problem paying $3 for a license to get $7 back from the federal government. That is paid to the states for every license sold.

Those funds come from a tax that is paid on all hunting fishing and camping gear at point of manufacturing. Through the Pittman Robison and Dingle Johnson Acts. As far as hunting was concerned a $3 fee was also purposed for your basic license.

On the subject of fees. You should check what other states charge. We still have a bargain. I will agree that some of the fees are way high for what we get for our buck. As far as park closing and service reductions are concerned. When the Governor rapes the DNR with cuts when it was paying for itself through license and other fees it charged. It’s time for a big change in Indianapolis.

Now what are we getting in N.E. Indiana? Not a whole heck of a lot. And would have a lot less if it weren’t for the efforts of some area managers to beg, borrow and steal to finish projects they had started. And make their properties work.

When all the state wants to do is sell licenses and not use good wildlife management programs we are the losers. As far as licenses are concerned, buy a lifetime license and save a ton of money. Yes Ray, there is a reduced fee for seniors. And no, you can’t get a youth license for $7. The only gun fee I know of is for a handgun permit, so we all have to pay for our outdoor vices and activities. Now to the flip side. I have been on several boar hunts and found them to be a real challenge. As far as stray bullets, lost property values and unsafe conditions are, the same old story we hear over and over again from the anti-hunting crowd.

It has not been proven that canned hunts spread C.W.D. which has been out west for years and comes from ranches that raise elk and deer for breeding and meat.

But what concerns me the most is when advisory boards and certain organizations shove their agendas down the hunter’s throat.

They have no problem going after your right to hunt deer, turkey, duck, or rabbit or your right to own firearms. So watch your backside.

Remember when you support certain groups all you are doing is paying someone who could care less about you, all they want is your money. So put that in your dutch oven and cook it.

Dear Cindy Cornwell:

Wanted to thank you again for the fine story you did on the Rendezvous last year. Folks are still talking about it. We are planning the event again this year and we plan to make it even bigger. The dates are October 9th and 10th. Again, it will be free for the public to attend.

Thanks again,

Jim Shawver…aka Running Water
