ATOP ONE SUMMIT SQUARE

It is the 10th anniversary for American Electric Power’s participation in the Indiana Peregrine Falcon Restoration Project in Fort Wayne. Once again the pair atop One Summit Square is back on camera and available online courtesy of AEP. FalconCam offers viewers the chance to observe the birds, “Roosevelt” and “Freedom” as they begin a new nesting season in their urban perch overlooking downtown Fort Wayne, IN.

The online project was developed by AEP, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and two nature conservation groups, Soarin’Hawk and the Audubon Society in 1995. The image is updated every 30 seconds from sunup to sundown on AEP’s World Wid Web site, www.AEP.com/go/falconcam from a surveillance camera installed on the roof of the building. In 1994, IDNR, AEP, Soarin’Hawk and the Stockbridge Audubon Society constructed the nest box on One Summit Square. The first successful nesting with chicks occurred in 1996. Since then, 27 chicks have been fledged at this site.

American Electric Power owns and operates more than 42,0000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States and select international market and is the largest electricity generator in the U.S.

AEP is also one of the largest electric utilites in the United States, with almost 5 million customers linked to AEP’s 11-state electrictiy transmission and distribution grid. The company is based in Columbus, Ohio.
