Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Mary T. Anderson, daughter of Martha J. Anderson, recently departed on a routine, scheduled deployment to the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Cole, home-ported in Norfolk, VA.
Anderson’s ship will be joining the 6,500 Sailors and Marines already deployed aboard the ships of the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group. Enterprise is the first U.S. carrier to deploy since the end of major military operations in Iraq.
The primary mission of Anderson’s ship is to provide multi-mission offensive and defensive capabilities. USS Cole is capable of operating independently or as part of a carrier strike group. Its flexibility provides presence with a purpose and strike power to support joint and allied forces afloat and ashore.
Anderson is a 1988 graduate of Elmhurst High School and joined the Navy June 1988.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Paul M. Cramar Kinter, son of Christine E. and Dean E. Kinter of Fort Wayne and his fellow Sailors welcomed Maj. Gen. Graham Lamb aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the Arabian Gulf on November 27th.
Lamb, 3rd United Kingdom Division Commander and head of coalition forces in southeast Iraq, visited Enterprise, homeported in Norfolk, VA, to discuss cooperation between U. S. and coalition forces and to get a first-hand look at carrier operations.
Lamb commended Cramar Kinter along with the 5,000 other sailors aboard Enterprise for providing much needed support to ground troops in Iraq.
Carriers like USS Enterprise are deployed throughout the world to maintain U. S. presence and provide rapid response in time of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.
Cramar Kinter’s ship provides close air support to ground units in Iraq as part of the Navy’s 5th Fleet.
Cramar Kinter joined the Navy in July 1999.
