COMPUTER FACTS
Microsoft, in co-operation with federal law enforcement, has declared war on the creators of viruses with its $5 million Anti-Virus Reward Program. The first two bounties of $250,000 each will be paid to anyone with information leading to the arrest of those responsible for releasing the MSBlast worm and Sobig virus that infected hundreds of thousands of computers in August and September. Hackers often share the virus programs they create with each other. The new Reward Program should help to stop the free flow of this harmful information as hackers begin to wonder who may be willing to turn them in for the bounty.
Beware; the latest computer virus attack is linked to Russia and takes the form of an e-mail appearing to be from a Citibank Account Manager thanking you for your online application for a Home Equity Loan. Once clicked, the virus downloads additional software from Russia that allows a hacker to use your machine without your knowledge. Any malicious activity would then be traced back to you.
I recommend that you purchase some type of virus protection software to protect your PC from the above type of mischief. Some virus programs can slow your computer down, but one I recommend is System Suite and it includes Trend Micros. If you have computer questions you may e-mail me at larry@computer-genious.com.
