SMOKE ON THE WIND
ATTITUDES OF LIFE
One early morning at a pow wow, a friend of mine was doing a pipe ceremony, praying to The Creator a gratitude prayer for our many blessings. ‑When the smoke rose from the sacred ceremonial pipe, on its way to The Creator, my friend invited us all to lift our thoughts and our spirits as the pipe was passed to each one gathered around the circle, so that we could all offer our prayer to God in this ancient and sacred ceremony.
I had to laugh when I had this thought: ‑if a spectator observed us, not understanding our ceremony, he might say, “Wow! Those Indians sure have got a ‘tude.” ‑Hearing this, we would say, “Megwetch – thank you. ‑Our ‘tude is our Grati-tude for all God’s creation.”
God bless you.
