ELMHURST GIRLS BB WIN SECTIONAL

The final game of the sectional pitted four time state champions Bishop Luers against the Elmhurst girls. Elmhurst came out determined to get to the regionals of Class 3A and maintained a lead throughout the game. Elmhurst won the sectional due to balanced scoring and a tenacious defense.
The Lady Trojans held high hopes as they went up against the undefeated Angola Hornets in the first game of the State Regional Basketball Tourney in Peru, Indiana.
Peru came out firing threes and even though the Lady Trojans played tough defense, Savannah Werner of Peru hit three first half three pointers to lead her team to a 29-16 halftime lead. Angola stayed hot all game, shooting 53 percent from the field. Elmhurst showed their balance by having three players in double figures. Brandi Stuckey and Keshia Kennedy had 12 and Sarah Hodgin (All-SAC) scored 10. The final score was Angola 65, Elmhurst 45.
The Angola Hornets lost the championship game to South Bend St. Joe, 66-38. Elmhurst rode this tournament further than anyone had expected with their Sectional win. They came off a 12-10 regular season and had they caught the Hornets on an average day they may have been in this tourney all the way to Indianapolis.
