ABOUT THE PLAY: It’s not often a truly original holiday musical comes along. This critically acclaimed holiday treat is family entertainment at its best. Based on true events from the late 19th Century, it tells the story of a Great Lakes shipping captain who braves the deadly winter weather on Lake Michigan to sail to Chicago and deliver a cargo of Christmas trees to homesick German-American families. The play hits all the right notes in its beautiful songs and its dialogue. It is a celebration of the immigrant experience, the hard work that helped build this country, and the faith of a people that kept them striving to make themselves better. This is a truly beautiful celebration of the American spirit.
The cast features Scott Rumage as captain Peter Stossel; with Nancy Kartholl, Joel Scribner and Aaron Bartscht as his wife, father and son. The rest of the cast includes: Eileen Ahlersmeyer, Grace Bachwich, Sasha Bachwich, Andrew Gingrich, Andrew Gross, Brett Hunter, Deb McMeen, Scott McMeen, and Mike Palmreuter. FPT Artistic Director Thom Hofrichter is directing the production; Jeanette Snyder-Walsh is the musical director; Lisa Root the choreographer. Set design is Jennifer Schmied; and Virginia Badour is designing costumes.
