MAD SCIENTISTS: WHO ARE THEY?
When your child hears the word “science”, does he/she cringe in fear of boredom or smile in anticipation of a fascinating learning experience? If he or she has been exposed to Mad Science, a locally owned company dedicated to increasing science knowledge in elementary aged children in Northern Indiana, chances are you will see that smile!
For over fourteen years, Mad Science has provided top quality educational and entertaining science programs and activities for millions of children in grades K-6 throughout the world. Mad Science of Northern Indiana has been in business since November 1998 and is locally owned by Aboite residents, Raymond and Sandra Wardell.
Mad Science of Northern Indiana’s mission is: We aim to spark the imagination and curiosity of children everywhere by providing them with fun, entertaining and educational activities that instill a clear understanding of what science really is and how it affects the world around them.
A wide variety of programs are offered through this company including Amazing Birthday Parties, After School Enrichment Programs, Workshops, and special events for schools, corporations, and other organizations. Mad Science is a hands-on, high-tech laboratory style program—-children can learn about light, altering sound waves, the conduction of electricity, make lightning, physical sciences, thermodynamics or heat energy, chemistry and so much more. The birthday parties entertain children with indoor fireworks, chemical magic, and of course, ooey, gooey slime! Children discover the mystery behind things that glow-in-the-dark and make super bouncing balls. You can even add a little cotton candy, rockets, or sound effects generators if you wish. Ray states that most parties last from 45 minutes to an hour in length.
In April of 2001, the company provided oral health presentations to 2,000 children in Fort Wayne free of charge through a sponsorship by Oral-B. Mad Science provides all the materials and carefully trained instructors for the programs. Ray states, “We plan on running 25 to 30 after-school programs this semester.” “We also have a program available through Ove Jorgeson YMCA, Southwest which runs every Tuesday, and watch for Mad Science to be at Jefferson Pointe around Thanksgiving.” Their programs correlate with the Indiana Science Proficiency Guide, and they are members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and the National Science Teachers Association.
Mad Science is the world’s leader in fun science with the concept to educate while entertaining. It sparks imagination and curiosity using interactive presentations that appeal to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 12. With just a simple phone call, teachers, parents, community organizers can have science at their fingertips. Want to know more?
