LOCAL BURGER KINGS SUPPORT VFW

Burger King Restaurants Inc., raised awareness and funds for military families through the VFW Unmet Needs Program from November 10 to December 14, 2008. The VFW Unmet Needs Program provides emergency financial support to families of military personnel in all five branches of the service. Over $2.3 million has been disbursed by the program to more than 1,200 families across the country.

Participating Burger King restaurants offered paper “flags” to customers to sign for a $1 donation that were displayed in the restaurants during the fundraising period. Proceeds from the total contribution of flags sales of $102,642 will go to the national VFW Headquarters, but will be credited to Indiana and Michigan to assist local military families in need. In the Fort Wayne area a total of $16,423 flags were sold during the fundraising period.

Commenting on the fundraising efforts, Burger King’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dan Fitzpatrick said, “I am very gratified for the magnitude of generosity given by our Burger King customers who truly gave from their hearts in order to help well-deserving families in need. All of us should be heartened to know that the funds we raised will directly affect veterans’ families who require assistance for their basic needs in what already is a very challenging economic environment. On behalf of these families, I want to thank the thousands of people who donated to this effort.”
