TREE DEDICATION TO HONOR STUDENTS
Maplewood Elementary School students and staff dedicated a flowering pear tree in memory of Alejandra Gutierrez and Liliana Rios. Both children were students at Maplewood at the time of their deaths in December.
There was a tree dedication ceremony, “Forever in Our Hearts, Alejandra and Liliana” at 11a.m., Wednesday, May 31 at the school, 2200 Maplewood Road, for all students and staff. The fifth and fourth grade ESL students led the Pledge of Allegiance and fifth graders sung “Friends.” Fifth grade teacher Deborah Nunn-Persley, ESL teacher Kristin Bell and Principal Kathy Huni-Dove gave a presentation.
Special thanks to the following businesses for their donations making the tree dedication possible: Lev Monument for the engraving; Nob Brick and Fireplace for the dedication stone; Logue Enterprises Landscape for the landscaping; and Arbor Farms Nursery for the pear tree.
