IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE CITY – Message From The Mayor

I recently joined residents and City leaders to recap progress that’s been made on infrastructure projects throughout the City.

We’re seeing record-breaking investments in neighborhoods, with nearly $45 million in the past two years. The City’s investment in streets and sidewalks this year is more than $21 million.

Neighborhood improvements completed this year include:

*Nearly 75 miles of asphalt, concrete and chip and seal repairs to City streets

*Nearly 1,400 ADA ramps constructed

*More than 13 miles of sidewalk and trail improvements
Efforts led by my Administration and the bipartisan Fiscal Policy Group call for more than $20 million in infrastructure improvements in each of the next several years.

We’re now in the final weeks of our construction season. Restoration work of grassy areas will continue in neighborhoods and other projects slated for completion this year. Residents will also see asphalt paving improvements before the end of this construction season on South Anthony Boulevard, Spring Street, Jefferson Boulevard, Ewing Street, Tyler Avenue, the intersection of South Calhoun Street and Tillman Road, and the intersection of West State Boulevard, Goshen Road and Hensch Street. Trail construction on Hanna Street and Hurd Street is also scheduled for completion this year.

I’m encouraged by the strides we’re making to have an excellent infrastructure system. It’s one of the reasons why we’re experiencing positive momentum and excitement in our community. By investing record amounts in our infrastructure, we’re working to keep our neighborhoods strong and vibrant. Neighborhoods are the backbone of our community. We’re enhancing the quality of life in our City and are positioning ourselves as a leader in job growth and opportunities for residents and businesses as we work together to move Fort Wayne forward in the right direction.

Thank you for your patience as we work together to make a meaningful difference for years to come.
