PLANS FOR FOOTBALL MINI CAMP
Jason Baker, Carolina Panthers punter and 11-year NFL veteran, recently announced plans for the 2011 Pro Football Mini Camp to be held May 14-15 at Wayne High School and Concordia High School. All current 6th, 7th and 8th graders who are attending middle school in the Fort Wayne area are eligible to attend.
In addition this year, those wishing to participate may register between February 21 and March 25 at the following YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne locations: Renaissance Pointe, Jorgensen Family, Parkview Family and Central Branch. There is no cost to attend, however, each player will participate in a community service project to help pay for the camp. Registration is limited to the first 150 participants per site.
“I am excited about this year’s Mini Camp and the opportunity it offers kids in the Fort Wayne area,” said Wayne High School alum Baker. “As those who have attended before will tell you, it’s about much more than just learning to block and tackle — it’s about teaching kids teamwork, self-confidence, personal responsibility and community spirit.”
“The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne is delighted to be able to help facilitate registration for the 2011 Pro Football Mini Camp,” said Martin Pastura, YMCA President and CEO. “This is one of those rare experiences that offers valuable life lessons that can benefit a young person for years to come.”
