OVER 100 WAITING FOR ORGAN TRANSPLANT IN ALLEN COUNTY
Of the more than 1,300 Indiana residents waiting today for a lifesaving organ transplant, almost 100 live in Allen County. While educational efforts about the importance of being a donor continue all year long at Lutheran Hospital, Donate Life Month each April takes on added significance for medical professionals and patients who know firsthand the meaningful impact these discussions can have.
To raise awareness and answer questions, representatives of the Lutheran Donor Council, the Lutheran Transplant Center, Indiana Donor Network and VisionFirst have placed pinwheels representing every Hoosier currently waiting for this gift of life will be displayed around the flagpoles at the hospital’s main entrance.
Besides the potential of eight organs, a single donor can help two recipients regain vision and an additional 75 through tissue donation.
