AZAR’S BIG BOY CUSTOMER APPRECIATION WEEK
In Waynedale, the center of town has always been the intersection of Lower Huntington and Bluffton Roads. Nestled on the Southwest corner for the past 49 years, Azar’s Big Boy Restaurant has been the one business which has stood the test of time. While all of the other corners changed with new tenants and buildings, the one and only Azar’s Big Boy has remained. In appreciation for the community’s support of this staple Waynedale business, Azar’s Big Boy Restaurant will be holding a customer appreciation week from September 10 through September 16.
The original restaurant, Azar’s Big Boy in Waynedale opened on March 16, 1964. It was located behind the existing structure as an “L” shaped building with seating inside for 68 and a curb service for 50 cars. In July of 1985, the existing structure was constructed to eliminate the curb service and expand the seating inside.
A complete remodel of the interior was completed in April 2000 to further adapt to the changing dining habits. The coffee shop-style restaurant was transformed into a family style restaurant by eliminating a majority of booths, concentrating on full service, and increasing the number of seats.
Then, in 2010 Azar’s Big Boy Restaurant completed another extensive renovation. The upgrades included a complete remodel of the public restrooms, which have been improved to include hands-free fixtures and beautiful tile work, new carpet, ceiling, booths, table tops, a re-facing of the salad bar, new counters at the cash stand area, and a new hostess counter. In addition new wall coverings were put up along with a new border and new see-through window shades.
