AROUND THE FRAME: THE WEEK BEFORE CHRSITMAS

‘TIS THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS

‘Tis the week before Christmas and my fingers are sore
from cutting and binding and quilting and more.

The ideal is to be done some time in November
It ain’t going to happen, not this year, not ever.

The cookies aren’t baked, the cards aren’t written,
Toby meows for food like a poor helpless kitten.

With a list of projects as long as my arm
Quilts to be restored set off my alarm.

A blood stain needs to vanish; a hole needs to be filled
A tear needs mending; the owner will be thrilled.

My days start early, I set a brisk pace
nine in the evening-my eyes start to glaze.

I am grateful for Phyllis who rips apart seams
A quilt now recreated once again beams.

“When will the tree be decorated?” Hubby wants to know.
“You’re the retired one you make it glow!”

These quilts will lie under Christmas trees
soon to be unwrapped to squeals of glee.

For what was once tattered and torn
by the work of my hands now lies reborn.

My work now finished it is time to rest
But before I do I have one final jest.

Merry Christmas to all Waynedale News Readers
And my church friends the Most Precious Bleeders!
