15TH AND FINAL LEIGHANN PALMER ANNUAL OUTING

Our beautiful 3 -1/2 year old daughter, LeighAnn, accidently drowned on May 28, 1995. On Sunday, September 24, 1995, the first annual LeighAnn Palmer Scholarship Fund Golf Outing was held in her memory and it established two scholarship funds.

One is for a senior cheerleader (LeighAnn loved cheerleading) at Bishop Luers High School to help pay college tuition her freshman year. Last year’s winner of this award was Katlyn Knuth. The other scholarship fund is for 8th grade girls at St. Therese to help pay tuition at Bishop Luers their 9th grade year. Last year’s winners included Jessica Carsten and Angelica Trevino.

Due to the success of the golf outings and the valuable input from sponsors and golfers, we have established the LeighAnn Palmer Foundation, Inc. In addition to the scholarships, we also continue to make contributions to local causes each year.

This enables all involved in supporting this effort to see local programs benefit in LeighAnn’s memory. Since LeighAnn was only 3-1/2 years old when she died, we focused on helping the children in our community. The proceeds for the betting holes at this year’s event will benefit the Phoenix Institute and Children’s Autism Center, Inc, Erin’s House for Grieving Children, SCAN, Camp Potawotami and Hoosier Burn Camp.

The Palmer family cannot begin to express their gratitude to everyone who has helped to make the golf outings a huge success. They are also very thankful to Bob Stark, the editor of The Waynedale News, for so graciously promoting this event for so many years.

Our goal was to have this golf outing every year until LeighAnn would have graduated from high school. She would have been a senior this fall which is why this is our 15th and final outing. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing the memory and spirit of LeighAnn to live on through your generous support and donations.
