SUMMER/FALL EVENTS AT LITTLE RIVER WETLANDS PROJECT!
Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting over 1000 acres of wetlands southwest of Fort Wayne, offers wonderful day and evening events this summer and fall. All are free and open to the community.
Exciting Evening Nature Programs:
-Wednesday, August 20, 7- 8:30pm – “Sedges have Edges, Rushes are Round….” Join Tim Skiver, LRWP board member and Earth Source, Inc. Wetland Specialist, on a night hike at Eagle Marsh. We’ll learn how to identify sedges, rushes, grasses, and other wetland plants. Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn on the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
-Monday, October 27, 7 – 8:30pm – “Sandhill Cranes in Indiana.” Join Mark Weldon, Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo Curator, to learn fascinating facts about these huge, wonderful birds that may soon nest at Eagle Marsh. Meet at the Aboite Library, 5630 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne.
-Wednesday, November 19, 6:30 – 8pm “Owls: Raptors of the Night.” Learn about owls and other creatures of the night on a hike with Soaring Hawk Raptor Rehabilitators. Come to the Eagle Marsh barn on the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
—Little River Ramblers Nature Hikes at Eagle Marsh every Tuesday 9 – 11 am. Leave from the Eagle Marsh barn on the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
Themed Nature Hikes First Saturday of every month:
•Saturday, August 2, 1 – 3pm – “Butterfly Count at Arrowhead Marsh.” All levels of experience welcome. To reach Arrowhead Marsh, take Redding Drive off of W. Jefferson to Aboite Road, turn left. The preserve is 1/8 mile on the left.
•Saturday, September 6, 1 – 3pm – “First Signs of Fall: Wildflowers of Arrowhead Marsh.” Dr. Paul Rothrock,Taylor University Professor of Earth and Environmental Science, shares his expertise on wetland plants and ecology as we hike Arrowhead Marsh. Take Redding Drive off of W. Jefferson to Aboite Road, turn left. The preserve is 1/8 mile on the left.
•Saturday, October 4, 1:15 – 2:30pm “Tour the New Eagle Marsh Woods with Experts on Everything There.” Join experts on the flora and fauna of Eagle Marsh and its woods for tours leaving from 1:15 to 2:30pm from the Eagle Marsh barn. Come to the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
—-Breakfast on the Marsh: 8 -10 am, second Thursday of every month. Breakfast, a nature presentation, and an optional walk at Eagle Marsh for well-seasoned nature lovers (50+).
