TOWNSHIP EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVE SUCCESSFUL

Wayne Township Trustee Richard Stevenson has launched an employment initiative at the Trustee’s Office that has been very successful in obtaining jobs for several Wayne Township clients.

During just one week in mid-November, a trucking firm hired eleven persons into good-paying truck driver positions. These new jobs were obtained as a direct result of employment interviews coordinated by Wayne Township staff member, James Graham.

During October, Wayne Township Employment Specialist Nancy Stump, through the Township Employment Department, facilitated the hiring of twenty-six clients into new positions.

“I can’t stress enough the importance of helping clients by getting those who can work back to full employment,” Trustee Stevenson said. “Clients often feel so much better about themselves once they start working and earning money to meet their own needs,” he added.

“Finding employment empowers people to become productive members of our community,” Trustee Stevenson continued. “This is why I have made employment a major focus of my administration.”

Trustee Stevenson commended the work done by Mr. Graham and Ms. Stump, as well as the leadership of Deputy Trustee LeRoy Page and Supervisor Rodney Scott in moving forward with the Trustee’s employment initiative.

The trucking firm jobs resulted from Mr. Graham being contacted by a trucking firm in Kentucky, which has a contract for hauling with a local business. The trucking firm initially wanted to hire four truck drivers.

Township staff compiled a list of fifteen possible applicants, and scheduled interviews for them with representatives of the trucking firm. The trucking firm was so impressed with the pool of applicants, the firm decided to hire eleven of the applicants.

The company committed to train the new hires at no cost. The average salary for a truck driver with the company is from $45,000 to $60,000.

In addition to working with the trucking company, the Township Employment Department has increased its effort to canvass area businesses to find out who is hiring. Canvassing also makes Wayne Township more visible among the employment community and establishes relationships with employers.

“Our successes so far have made us even more excited to push forward with trying to obtain as many jobs as possible for our clients,” Trustee Stevenson added.
