TAX PREPARATION PROGRAM AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO MEET INCOME GUIDELINES
Help with all those confusing tax forms is available for many late tax filers. The Wayne Township Trustee’s Office, in conjunction with the City of Fort Wayne and other agencies, is hosting a tax preparation program for persons whose incomes are less than $38,000 a year.
Certified, volunteer tax preparers will prepare tax returns at no charge for those persons, who meet the income guidelines. This program will continue through April 14. Preparers will be available from noon to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Spanish speaking preparers are available on Saturday.
No appointment is necessary. Persons wishing to have their taxes prepared through this program should come to the Wayne Township Trustee’s office, at 320 East Superior Street, during the scheduled hours. Participants will be seen in order of their arrival.
Wayne Township Trustee Richard Stevenson said this tax program is a wonderful opportunity to help insure that persons within the income guidelines take advantage of tax credits available to them. “The Wayne Township Trustee’s Office is proud to host the tax preparation program this year,” Mr. Stevenson said.
Jackie Darr, program coordinator for the tax program, explained that the program is specifically geared to ensure that persons who meet the income guidelines take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit, as well as a telephone credit available for this year only.
Ms. Darr said the program has been very successful. Over 700 persons have taken advantage of the program already this tax season. Participants in the program have received almost a $1,000,000 in tax refunds, and the program still has several days left before completion.
