DO YOU REMEMBER?
The year was 1961. It was the Parrish Standard Service Station at the Southeast corner of Bluffton and Lower Huntington Roads, owned by Chuck and Christina Parrish.
Full time employees were the mail carrier, Cushman Scooter and Mike Reed. Part-time employees were Gerry Lloyd, Guy Folts (People’s Dairy), Dick Bridge (Bowmar), Bob Shutt (Waynedale Radiator), and Al Hutchins (Rea Wire).
Gas was 27.9 cents a gallon and if you ordered a full tank of gas the attendant would check your oil level, battery charge, air pressure in your tires and clean your windows.
