THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT

THOSE WIZARD USHERS

One of the pluses when you attend a Wizards game is you get a chance to talk to the many stadium ushers. They are very friendly and quite knowledgeable about baseball. There are many, and a few that come to mind are: Vern Doehrman, Connie Bricker, Tony Ahvens, Peggy Collins, Jim Millhouse and (pictured above) Bill and Nancy McCleary.

The reason all are living examples is because of a statement one made. “We are here because we choose to be here.” All ushers go through a training program and this is a reflection on there friendly attitudes.

As I mentioned before there are many and as a tribute to all, I’d like to talk a little bit about Bill and Nancy McCleary. Nancy has been an usher for 13 years and Bill, 12 years. Bill, a WWII veteran is a supervisor and Nancy also fills in, in that capacity. Some of Nancy’s duties are answering the telephone when the Coliseum office shuts down. “It’s raining, will the Wizards play? How much is that concert? What time will it start?”

The usher’s duties are many and most are equipped with a radio for easy contact. I may not have given the ushers their just dues. We can all finish my job by thanking them for a job well done.
