LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

When the Veterans of the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts returned home there were no welcome home signs or parades, due to the public sentiment against the wars at that time. So it was very encouraging to see that the troops returning from Iraq received the honors that they richly deserved. “Freedom is not free. God Bless ALL Veterans.”

Thank you,

Re: Your “Royal White Tiger for sale” ad

To whom it may concern:

I am in receipt of my phone conversation I had today with your office regarding the ad that was ran in the classified (October 15th issue) under the caption “For Sale Royal White Tiger”.

As I was explaining to the lady that I’d spoken with, regarding this ad, the telephone numbers that were given #1-800-Siegfried or 1-800-Hun-grry were not good phone numbers. The number #800-Siegfried when called a recording states “This number is invalid or has been blocked from your area” and when you call #800-Hun-grry another recording comes on “call #800-353-3300 to reach Top Line to speak to new exciting people.” So I called #800-353-3300 & a recording comes on and states, “Hi Guys, go live one on one with HOT HORNEY GIRLS just waiting to talk to you.”

When I explained these details to the lady I’d spoken with (sorry did not get a name) she acted as though she did not know that ad had those numbers to call, but states that we (as in The Waynedale News) run those type of ads all the time. At first I thought it’s all in fun, then it came to me that if a child would get a hold of this ad and call those numbers then what? I was wondering if this type of situation has been discussed among the manager(s) and have decided that running these types of ads are sufficient? Then I guess my second question would be, “Does this paper promote pornography?”I enjoy getting your newspaper, and found it to be a family paper, for all ages to read or to enjoy the kids’ corner, but I would have to reconsider the continuation of receiving your newspaper if that is how your office operates. I am not trying to come across as being rude or inconsiderate, I have children in my home and I would not want them to come across the same situation that I did with this particular ad that was ran.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Dear Katie area code 46802,

I was not here when your phone call came through so I can only answer what you have written in your letter.

#1 – Why would you want to buy a tiger in the first place – meaning why did you place the call? Do you really want to take the risk of being attacked by a white tiger?

#2 – Do you call the numbers that you see on TV sit-coms and other TV shows also? Surely you know they are just fake numbers? Have you tried to call BR549?

#3 – Doesn’t the number 1-800-Siegfried or 1-800-Hungrry ring a bell and tip you off that it’s a spoof on the recently published story about Siegfried and Roy being fired because of the Royal White Tiger attack in their Las Vegas show? Didn’t the words ‘trained in Vegas’ or ‘hand fed’ give you a hint of spoofyness?

#4 – The 353-3300 number you called on your own; it does not translate from Siegfried or Hungrry.

#5 – Don’t you monitor your children’s phone calls or their on-line Internet time? They’ll pick up more porn on-line with their computers than all the phone calls they will ever make.

#6 – To answer your last question – NO, we do not promote pornography.

We are sorry we didn’t monitor these numbers or try them out but we will continue to run ads like this for: 1)’Humorous reading’, 2)’To make our ads more interesting’, 3)’As attention getters’, and ‘Just for the heck of it’. Thank you for reading our humble paper.
