SMOKE ON THE WIND

GOING TO THE POLES

My friend, Bill “Three Paws” Elias, and I walked in the woods, looking for a nice, straight tree that would become the Prayer Pole at Tekakwitha Point here at Peace Tree Ridge. ‑We came across one that we both agreed was the perfect tree to be transformed into our Prayer Pole.

Bill said, “You got an axe? I’ll chop it down for us, after we have prayer, thanking The Creator.” ‑I replied, “Sure, Three Paws. ‑Let me go get it for you.” ‑

I came back with a small tomahawk axe. ‑I said, “Here you go, Bill. ‑I’m going to go make us some coffee, and I will be back to help you.”

My intent was to come back with a larger axe befitting the job at hand. The small one was a joke. However, the joke was on me. ‑Three Paws had chopped down the tree with that little tomahawk! ‑It now stands erect in the Medicine Circle here at Peace Tree Ridge. ‑

Three Paws (Bill Elias) also has a Prayer Pole at the Smiling Otter Trading Post on the property where he and his wife live. ‑He is a good craft person and has many beautiful items for purchase or trade. ‑His shop is just north of Churubusco on U.S. 33, on the right side of the road.

Stop by and see him. While you are there, ask him to tell you his version of the Prayer Pole at Peace Tree Ridge; and then go with him for prayer at his, before heading up to Peace Tree Ridge to have prayer at mine.

May The Creator bless you and guide you upon your journey.
