SMOKE ON THE WIND

IN THE MOMENT

How often we have been told to be in the now. ‑The moment is now, yesterday is gone and tomorrow has not arrived. ‑I believe we need some guidelines in a statement like this, and I would like to share some with you.

When I lost my 21-year-old daughter in an auto accident in December a few short years ago, it did not resonate well with me to hear people say: ‑”Capture the moment, her soul chose to go at that time, etc.” ‑It was hard for me, and still is, at Christmas time. ‑Her birthday is December 26th.

Yes, I was in the moment. ‑The moment of sorrow, depression, anger, and lonliness until I discovered something wonderful, and it is this “something wonderful” that I now wish to share with you readers of The Waynedale News and the Smoke on the Wind column.

Being in the moment, I have discovered, means being in the Moment of Truth. ‑The truth is that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, and there will be an assortment of life’s joys and sorrows. ‑Let me stop here for a moment and reflect on what came to me as I wrote that statement. ‑I thought of one of my most favorite meals, sweet and sour chicken, and, oh yes, the wonderful hot and sour soup. ‑When life seems too sour and sorrowful, it is then that we can and must tap into the truth of who and what we are. ‑This will set us free of the the darkness, for we have knocked upon the door of our spiritual essence and it has swung open wide for us to enter. ‑Another reflective moment about this statement: ‑I think of opening the refrigerator when the room is dark, and as soon as the door is opened, the light comes on. ‑As we look within, we may see a snack, a meal, or a banquet complete with a most delicious dessert. ‑Or our refrigerator may reveal that the light has burned out, and the refrigerator is empty.

What this all means to me is that I have been learning how to stock my refrigerator, so that when I open it the light comes on, and there are enough ingredients for a banquet. ‑Please come join me. ‑The table is set and you are the guest of honor.
