South Side High School is pleased to announce that the Fine and Performing Arts department is performing the classical musical “Gypsy”! The musical, “Gypsy,” is based off of the true story of the most famous burlesque dancer, Gypsy Rose Lee, and her mother, Rose’s, dreams of making her daughter, June, into a star. But when June elopes, Rose has to turn her attention to her older daughter Louise to try to make her into the star she wanted June to be. The multi-Tony award winning Broadway play was later turned into a movie in 1962, featuring the talents of Rosalind Russell, Natalie Wood, and Karl Malden. In 1993, Bette Midler was casted as Mama Rose in the made for television movie; the cast also included Peter Riegert and Cynthia Gibb.

The cast and crew is compiled of over fifty actors, stage managers, crew members, and orchestra members; and all are led by director, Elizabeth Sanchez. South Side’s production includes the acting talents of seniors: Brianna Brown as Mama Rose, Michael Wilson as Herbie, Rachelle Linsenmayer as Louise, and so many more. The performances will be on Friday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. in the South Side High School Auditorium.
