THE REMININISCENCE

TATI’S STOLEN CHAUSSON POINTS

Tatiana’s story continues

(Part two of three)

Tatiana remembered wearing a long lightweight skirt that became known as the Romantic tutu. She wore her hair parted in the center and the rest kept tight and close to her head. Tatiana was proud she danced with toe shoes and was able to execute the leaps, which were very difficult! She recollected a lift in Giselle that was to give the illusion of flight. Sergio was always dependable and made her float effortlessly. She missed him so much but was glad he was with Jesus and that she would see him once more and they could dance forever.

Tatiana smiled when she remembered she needed a pair of toe shoes for a very special section of the ballet. It was very difficult to find just the right color but she found a dye maker who could do it. These toe shoes were made from a beautiful satin material. They could have been used for several performances. She liked them so much and wanted to keep them, so she wore them only once.

Each night she would sit in front of the fire and read and reminisce. Sometimes she would have warm tea or milk. Her cat, Jete, would usually jump up to her overstuffed chair and snuggle next to her.

“Now there’s someone who keeps me company,” she thought.

After her tea and reading, she took her flickering candle and promptly went to her bedroom. The bed was an old one owned by her mother. It was always comfy and she could pull the feather bed over her. Upon blowing out the candle, she promptly went to sleep.

One particular night she awoke around 3:00am and thought she heard a noise from the hallway. She listened and listened but all she heard was a creaking floor and what sounded like a door opening She thought about getting up but with having trouble getting out of bed and using a cane, she thought better to stay in bed. In the morning she could take a look around. Anyway the sounds had stopped.

In the morning, she cautiously looked throughout the apartment and found nothing disturbed. The only thing she noted was that a key to the room of reminisce was on the kitchen table.

“I think I put that away the other day but then I sometimes forget and leave it on the kitchen table,” she said to herself. Since she didn’t find anything out of place, she put the whole thought out of her mind.

Recently she received a letter from her daughter Natalia in America. Her student, Sylvia just won an international competition for ballerinas. She would appear with the New York City Ballet and travel to Moscow to take the title role in Giselle. Natalia found Sylvia to be a great student and shared with her memories to be sure to watch for Sylvia’s upcoming performance and chance to meet her.

“How exciting,” thought Tatiana.

She was so proud of Natalia for carrying on family traditions.
