ELMHURST PRESENTS ONCE UPON A MATTRESS
Elmhurst High School presents the musical that made Carol Burnett a household name, Once Upon A Mattress. Once Upon A Mattress, music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barer will be presented in the Elmhurst High School auditorium on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 with a 7:30pm curtain time. The musical is based on the Hans Christian Andersen’ fairy tale, The Princess and The Pea. If you thought you knew the Princess and The Pea story, you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Most importantly, in an attempt to keep Prince Dauntless the Drab single, Queen Aggravain, the queen mother, has decreed that Dauntless will wed only a true princess of royal blood. Further, no one else in the kingdom may marry until Prince Dauntless does. Or that Lady Larken’s love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that in fact, it wasn’t the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side splitting shenanigans. Chances are, you’ll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.
We have a very talented cast and production team for this musical. The main characters are Lauren Marlow as Princess Winnifred, Luke Somers as Prince Dauntless, Elizabeth Burris as Queen Aggravain, Dan Botteran as King Sextimus, Jose Serrato as Sir Harry, Kim Snyder as Lady Larken, Rene Rogers as the Minstrel, Jennifer Hodgin as the Jester and Jack Schnellenberger as the Wizard. Mr. Donald Goss is the set designer. The rest of the cast include, Katie Roberts, Bethany Sipes, Amanda Walchle, Ashli Wilt, Jason Johnson, Paul Berghoff, Nathan Driscoll, Aubrey Johnson, Nathan Krueckeberg, Laiza Reyes, Joe Petit, Jayson Barrand, Adam Colchin, Ashley Mendez and Amber Terry. Mr. Brett Adams is the musical director. Gary Lanier is the choreographer. Mr. Greg Vey is the musical/vocal director and rehearsal pianist. Mrs. Nancy Brown and Mrs. Vicky Walchle are in charge of costumes.
Directed by the Drama and Speech Coach for Elmhurst, Maggie Hunter is very excited to be directing Once Upon A Mattress.
