THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN MAKING THE PERFECT BOY SCOUT PANCAKE

Follow these directions only; do not follow your instincts

1 box – complete/just add water/pancake mix

Grease your griddle and then wipe it dry of all excess oil

Measure out mix for desired amount of pancakes per box direction

Add amount of water for that amount of pancake mix per box direction

Mix canola oil into batter (1 tablespoon per pint of batter)

Pour large soupspoon full of batter on preheated griddle

Wait for batter to form bubbles – turn pancake over

DO NOT MASH PANCAKE DOWN – it will raise up like bread dough

J. Take pancake off griddle and pour another (do not re-grease griddle)

K. Enjoy pancakes with syrup, jelly, peanut butter, etc

 

Trouble shooting your pancake disasters

Batter too thick – add water

Batter too thin – add more mix

Pancake too dark – turn down heat

Pancake too light – turn up heat

Pancake sticks – not enough oil in batter

Pancake thin and flat when taken off grill – don’t mash pancake down

Pancake greasy – too much oil in batter or griddle not wiped dry

Pancake raw inside – pancake not cooked long enough

Pancake raised, light, fluffy, and delicious – You follow directions

 

BOY SCOUT RANCH BEANS

(Serves two Scouts)

2 tbsp. Oil

1 medium onion (diced)

1 tsp. garlic powder

1 medium green pepper (seeded and diced)

1 tsp. hot sauce or to taste

1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 (15 oz.)can pinto beans with liquid

salt and pepper to taste

 

Heat oil in a heavy saucepan. Add onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Cook until just soft. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for about a 1/2 hour.
