…echoed through the woods at the YMCA CAMP POTAWOTAMI, a branch of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne. It is located on over 200 beautiful acres of woods and on the shore of Blackman Lake near South Milford, IN, just 45 minutes north of Fort Wayne.

There are cabins and conference centers with large meeting rooms overlooking a marsh and Blackman Lake. At Camp Potawotami you can boat, canoe, fish, kayak, swim (weather permitting), and rock climb. They also have basketball courts, a tennis court, softball and football fields, soccer fields, sand volleyball, and archery. And for the angler a fishing dock.

This year my brother, Jordan, my friend, Jesse, and I attended the Halloween Camp held on Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October 21st. There was a bonfire, pumpkin carving and painting, carnival games, and a masquerade ball. Our Halloween weekend would not have been complete without that trip down the haunted trail. There was also a haunted hayride, scavenger hunt and s’mores!

All campers and counselors stayed in Sharples Center. This is a fully winterized dorm complete with showers and restrooms. There was a large common area with a fireplace and a kitchen where we would meet each day.

Hopefully, you can join us next time at Camp Potowatomi. For more information on Y Camps call the Y nearest you: Central Branch 422-6486, Southeast Branch 447-4567, Southwest-Jorgensen 432-8953.
