GO! TOASTMASTERS! GO!
That is how I feel as we end another year with the election of new officers to take over July 1. As president, it has been a fulfilling time and an exciting time as we see our members growing in their speaking and leadership abilities.
Memorial Day weekend saw our first car wash to help earn money to purchase kits to assist our members in their speaking and leadership growth. There are certain projects that are needed to move up in leadership in Toastmasters, as well as, in the speaking area. We had six members and spouses help with the car wash at Southgate Pizza Hut on May 28. The weather was perfect—not too hot or cold– and Jim Green, our car wash leader, guided our workers through the perfect job of cleaning around 10-12 cars. Jim has taken courses in car care and hopes to start his own car detailing business soon. We were excited to earn $100 in donations from the pleased customers. It has been suggested that we do this again over Labor Day weekend. We will let you know if we do!
In other business, our Area Governor, Patricia Knaebe, installed our new officers for the 2011-2012 year. They are: President, Berniece Wilkins; VP of Education, Jim Green; Secretary/Treasurer, David Wilkins; VP of Public Relations, Linda Demorest; VP of Membership, Randy Crouch; and Sgt.-At-Arms, Steve Walter. This weekend, June 25, we will be conducting officers’ training at the Allen County Public Library to help all our new officers in the Fort Wayne area become well equipped for their new duties.
July 5, several Toastmasters will be participating in a patriotic salute to our military and our wonderful country’s history on the Speakers and Leaders Hour program that is broadcast on Comcast Channel 57 from 7-8 pm. All speeches will be geared to saluting our country and our brave men and women who have or are currently proudly serving our great nation. We hope you will join us—again that is July 5, on Channel 57 from 7-8 pm.
We welcome all to visit us on Tuesday nights at Penguin Point at 6:30pm on Lower Huntington Road to see what we are truly like and to get a taste of how we could be of benefit to you. No matter what your work, or station in life, good communication is beneficial to all–from busy mothers to teachers to bank managers to salesmen and technicians —and we have some of each in our club! Hope to see you soon!
