It’s official, straight from the IDNR – If you are under 17 years of age or over 65 you ‘DO NOT’ have to buy a fishing license OR a trout stamp in the state of Indiana in 2004. Thank you Indiana.

After spending a small fortune over the years on hunting license, fishing license, trout stamps, deer licenses, park entrance fees, and camping permits, etc, I’m finally getting something back. Oh, and I also understand that state park entrance fees for seniors are only around $12 instead of $18, another $avings.

Personally I think that 65-year old seniors (now that I ‘are’ one) should be permitted to fish AND hunt free of charge in the state of Indiana. I also think that State Park entrance fees should be waved for seniors. And while I’m at it, I think that camping fees should be half price also for our deserving seniors (ok, but only on a first come, first serve, no call-ahead reservation basis of course). After all we have paid full price for all these services for some 30, 40, or more years already. Surely we’re worth this small consideration.

You know if Seniors were allowed to enter our State Parks ‘free’ and camp at say half price, I think a lot of them would see what an asset these places are to our state and they might just volunteer to help run them, maintain them, and act as guides, etc, etc, . . . maybe the DNR could open up some of the many campgrounds they’ve closed in the last year or so due to lack of funds (or so they say).

Roughly figuring, I’ve spent $100-$200 each and every year for boat registration, boat trailer license, trailer registration, hunting, fishing, deer, and gun permits in the state of Indiana for around 40 years. This does not include camping fees and State park entrance fees. That figures out to $4,000-$6,000 plus. Now if you count in what I’ve spent in sales tax on boating, canoeing, fishing, hunting, and camping gear. . . well that’s quite a bit of money to dump into the State’s coffers. By the way, this doesn’t include taxes on income, cars, trucks, gasoline, property, etc. Don’t you think we seniors deserve a small break??? After all you too are going to be one of us, one day.
