IN FAITH
At the Feeder,
As a Waynedale resident I admire the various forms of wild life in our community, especially the birds that frequent my back yard feeders. On any given day, our lawn fills with birds of every size and description. Cardinals, finches, Juncos but I especially love the sparrows. I know what you’re thinking sparrows? Yuck! They’re messy and noisy and NUMEROUS! They take without asking, they aren’t pretty and their song is “cheap”. Sparrows aren’t very spectacular, I’ll give you that.
But, have you ever considered how the happy little sparrows greets the challenges of the day? They commune together. They take joy and pleasure in the company of others. They take advantage of things people cast off and are not prone to depression. Bursting into flight at the prospect of food or shelter, the Common House Sparrow is a model for us to consider this Advent.
They watch and wait for the dawn, are expectant and joyful in praise, look out for each other, least the darkness and evil try to envelope them. The common sparrow is humble and simple, but God loves them all. Jesus said not one of them falls to the ground without God’s knowledge or concern yet how much more God considers each of us.
I pray your advent is a season celebrated in the spirit of the sparrow, hopeful, peaceful, joyful and lovingly filled with praise. But I especially hope that you find yourselves.
Feeding on the Love of Christ,
