MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

MAYOR TOM HENRYFort Wayne is
a City on the Move!

Fort Wayne and Allen County are “moving” into a very exciting time in our history as we move our administrative offices into Citizens Square at 200 E. Berry Street. With our forward-looking decision to co-locate City and County administrative services, we are coming together as a community, making things easier for our residents and making local government work more efficiently. We’re also sending an important signal to businesses everywhere that Fort Wayne and Allen County are a welcoming place for them to locate, stay and expand. With this move, our collective vision starts to be a reality.

To ensure that you are always informed about this rapidly moving transition, we’ve created a webpage on the City of Fort Wayne website called “Citizens Square – Move Central.” It is located at cityoffortwayne.org/MoveCentral. This is where you will find the latest information about department move dates, maps of the area around the building and floor plans indicating the new location of the offices. This site is being updated regularly with information about which offices are in transition and which ones are settled at 200 E. Berry Street. Another way to find out which offices have relocated is by calling 311 our “One Call to City Hall” service center.

We’ve gone to great lengths to plan the move in a way that will keep City services open and operating throughout the transition. We are moving a few departments at a time and so far, the moves have gone extremely well. As with any move, there may be a glitch or two along the way as we disconnect and reconnect computers and phone systems. However, I’m confident that our detailed planning will keep inconveniences to a minimum. I expect all City departments that are moving to Citizens Square to be settled and doing business in their new location by May 27th.

For a lot of us, 1 E. Main Street is the only City-County Building we’ve ever known and we’ve gotten comfortable here. But it’s time to move on to a new building and a new level of City and County cooperation. Citizens Square – where City and County Departments that share similar functions will be located near each other – will ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective services that increase citizen access and convenience. Co-location will also bring operational efficiencies for all residents and for companies doing business in the area.

The primary goals of City and County governments are to provide the best quality services to our customers, the residents of Fort Wayne and Allen County and to bring new jobs to the region. With the move to Citizens Square, my pledge to create a one-stop shop for economic growth begins to take form. We look forward to welcoming you to Citizens Square.
