DEAR WAYNEDALE READERS,
We are pleased to be moving forward with a $35 million plan to retain and gain jobs. City Council recently approved our plan that calls for a series of economic development opportunities and infrastructure improvements over the next three years. We are so excited about the future projects that will occur all around the city. The projects will be funded through a county economic development income tax (CEDIT) bond, which will not increase taxes. As a result of the bond, an additional $9 million will be freed up to pursue economic development and job creation projects. Without raising taxes, these investments in job creation and infrastructure will help us build a better city that promotes gaining and retaining jobs.
Recent crime figures show an overall decrease in crime in the city. I salute Police Chief Rusty York and his entire staff for their hard work. We want to be the safest city of our size in the country. A commitment to public safety improves the quality of life for all of us.
Snow season will soon be here. The City Street Department is prepared for the upcoming winter season. Our snow removal efforts are designed to provide excellent customer service to residents. We are committed to keeping the streets of Fort Wayne as safe as possible for motorists. I encourage you to visit our website, www.cityoffortwayne.org, there you will find detailed snow route maps with street names and the City’s snow policies and procedures manual.
The Waynedale area is served by snow route 13. This area includes Smith Road, Winchester Road, Indianapolis Road, Ferguson Road, Lower Huntington Road, Old Trail Road, Sand Point Road, Bluffton Road, Airport Expressway, Airport Drive, and Ardmore Avenue.
I also encourage everyone to visit downtown during the holiday season. There are several events planned for families to enjoy.
